Iron Rich Foods For Pregnancy – How Do I Ensure I Have The Right Nutrition During Pregnancy?
If you’ve just found out you’re pregnant, you may be thinking you can eat anything you want without worry, because the baby “needs it,” yes? Well not really, good nutrition during pregnancy is really important and you’ll need to focus on eating healthy foods to support both you and your baby.

A well balanced diet includes all the foods you should eat but you also need to know which foods you shouldn’t. For example keep away from things loaded with fat and sugar or made with white flour. You should also eat foods like citrus fruits and strawberries which are high in vitamin C, and plenty of vegetables like broccoli, cauliflower, Brussels sprouts, tomatoes and green peppers.
Good nutrition during pregnancy includes approximately 70 mg of vitamin C a day and about four micrograms of folic acid. You can get the recommended daily amount of folic acid from foods like legumes and leafy green vegetables.
Iron rich foods for pregnancy are important too…
As a nutrient, iron is especially important to pregnant women, it’s recommended that you get about 27 mg of iron a day from your diet. That’s because iron helps your blood cells to carry oxygen throughout your body and your baby’s body. Iron is important for your muscles to work properly as it helps oxygen in the blood get to them. And, iron also helps you with immune functions, so that you’re less susceptible to disease or stress.
When you’re pregnant, you absorb iron more efficiently, so you need more iron to make sure that both you and your baby are getting enough oxygen. If you get enough iron, you’ll also be less likely to feel tired and weak, or depressed. You need to ensure your diet includes the best sources of iron rich foods for pregnancy which are meat, fish and chicken. Many other foods also have a good iron content.
Nutrition during pregnancy doesn’t have to be difficult you just need to know which foods to eat and which to avoid. Good nutrition during pregnancy is a necessity for both you and your baby.
